SKIN CARE FOR THE INDIVIDUAL BEING TREATED OR RECOVERING FROM CANCER:

Since 2013, I have been "ONCOLOGY TRAINED" by Oncology Spa Solutions: This is an advanced certification training program for licensed spa professionals that requires re-certification and testing every 2 years. It specifically addresses how cancer and cancer treatments affect the person and what that means to the spa therapist who is providing services.  It helps the esthetician to understand cancer, medications, current treatments, side effects and contraindications.

THE "MY OASIS" FACIAL SERVICE for the oncology client is dedicated to safely, compassionately and confidently caring for the client and the side effects that occur to the skin. Most of those undergoing radiation and chemotherapy will experience skin issues.  Some range from mildly irritating dryness and rashes to the more severe.  I will provide a customized service for you and we will discuss the side effects you are experiencing and what can be done to help lessen them. As appropriate for your individual needs, the BelMondo mask, Facial Acupressure, Ayurvedic Kansa, reflexology, LED light therapy, and modified facial massage techniques may be incorporated into the facial. Along with a listening ear, you will experience much deserved relaxation so you leave feeling more rejuvenated and your spirit less stressed.   75 Minutes -  $89

Facial Treatment Form:  Kindly download, print and complete this form and bring it with you during your initial skin care service.  If you are unable to download this, please email me ahead of time to advise and arrive 15 minutes early so that you may complete this form and bring a list of your current medications.  My email is: healthyskinbylori@gmail.com

As a volunteer for Allegheny Health Network's Cancer Institute, I was requested in 2020 to help create a program called Caring For Your Skin and Nails. As the Program Lead, I provide tips and teach cancer patients how to care for their skin and nails while undergoing anti-cancer therapies. Cancer treatments, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and radiation can cause changes in the skin such as dryness, dehydration, redness, rashes, sensitivity, irritation, radiation dermatitis, and other side-effects. They can also cause changes in the nails. I also discuss ingredient knowledge as what we put on our skin affects it especially while undergoing treatment.

There is no charge for this program and is open to ALL Pennsylvania cancer patients and survivors, regardless of insurance coverage. When calling the registration phone number at: 412-330-4045, you can also learn about the other free programs offered by AHN!  Here is the flyer for 2023:

EVENT:  What a great turnout with approximately 475 attendees! I was one of the speakers and had a table where attendees could obtain info about the free AHN Program, "Caring for Your Skin and Nails" that I lead several times a year.  Looking forward to doing this again in the future!

SKIN CONSULTATIONS:  I know those undergoing treatment need help with their skin and the side effects being experienced from treatment. If you are uncomfortable coming in person, I will be happy to provide a skin consult via Zoom or other virtual.  Please email me at healthyskinbylori@gmail.com and we can make arrangements to discuss your concerns.

WELLNESS SERVICE:  Tranquility Touch Therapy:  Depending upon your current stage of treatment and with your physician approval, you can help to boost that immune system and just "let it go" for 45 minutes. While you have your mask on (if preferred) and while I provide any needed modifications, I will take you to a state of deep relaxation in a calming room with soothing music and the reverb of a singing bowl, using forehead acupressure and rose quartz (to open the heart, balance the emotions and promote love) and work down your neck, shoulders, arms and hands with the Ayurvedic Kansa. Then we get to the fabulous finale foot massage. This Kansa works on subtle energy fields stimulating deep relaxation, detoxing the skin and promoting healing. Take this " self-care" time to relax, renew, and revitalize.

SKIN CARE PRODUCTS AND MAKEUP:  I will share specialized knowledge about quality skin products and ingredients that are free from harmful chemicals, toxins and fragrance. Your skin challenges will be met with products from skin care lines whose roots are in oncology cosmeceuticals and support  the special skin changes, needs and compromised immune systems.  You can feel safe knowing that the products and ingredients used in my treatment room and can be provided for home use have been chosen with the unique needs of the cancer patient in mind.

MINDFULNESS-BASED AESTHETICS TRAINING -  This program is based on the MBSR program that is currently used in hospitals and cancer centers all over the United States.  I attended the Retreat and completed the training for this Program in Knoxville, Tennessee in June 2022.  What a truly life-changing and amazing experience for the 12 of us like-minded, oncology-trained estheticians.  We truly connected, shared our passion with the cancer patients, and although we are in different regions of the country, will be supporting each other through all of our endeavors.

NANCY'S LIST:  Nancy Novack, Ph.D. developed Nancy's List, a non-profit foundation that offers a national listing of providers who offer a variety of integrative therapies to compliment traditional cancer treatments.  Listed under each state, you will find listings for other oncology trained estheticians, massage therapists, integrative energy providers, acupuncturists, chiropractors, psychotherapists, nutritionists, and cancer fitness programs.  The list goes on.  I am very pleased to be included as an Oncology Trained Esthetician on Nancy's List.

Nancy's List provides a comprehensive list of financial resources that are available.   Beyond all of this, Nancy's List provides stories of hope and is a wealth of information for cancer patients and their caregivers.  Please check this resource at:  nancyslist.org
